Trent Vale Habitats - Urgent Appeal

We need your support to boost our Besthorpe Appeal!

Help us transform vital Trent side habitats at our Besthorpe Nature Reserve.

Last year we launched our Appeal to help raise the £35,000 needed to fund our ambitious Besthorpe Restoration Project - working to restore and create in excess of 16 hectares of reed bed, wet grassland and other valuable wetland habitats.

To date, we have raised over £15,000 towards our total. This is a tremendous achievement and we are grateful for the support received so far, but in order to be able to complete the main phase of the habitat restoration during autumn 2010, we urgently need to raise the remaining £20,000.

Money raised by this Appeal will benefit important bird species such as reed bunting, bearded tit and bittern, as well as other wildlife which thrives on wetland habitat such as the graceful otter and the short-eared owl. This coming autumn we plan to install a water level management system which will provide ideal conditions for the new reedbed. We will then lower the reed bed by removing earth underneath it. Once completed, this work will not only provide a significant boost for wildlife, but will also enhance the site for visitors. Access improvements will include new viewing areas and the installation of new interpretative materials.

"Every £1 donated will effectively enable us to invest £10 in this vital project - people can really help us make a difference

John Everitt, Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s Besthorpe Appeal is one of the flagship projects in an exciting and ambitious programme of activities planned by the Trent Vale Landscape Partnership over the next five years. Thank you

(In the event that we do not raise all the required funding, all donations towards this Appeal will be used to support wildlife habitat improvements in the Trent Vale area).
