Christmas Lectures draw supporters despite the snow!
Wednesday 15th December
The Idle Valley Christmas Lectures were well supported on 9th December despite the atrocious weather.
Keen photographers from Retford Photographic Society Alex and Billy Birch along with Alan Townsend gave a stunning presentation of wildlife from local reserves and their own back gardens, followed by Dr Paul Waring, Britain’s best-known moth specialist who demonstrated how to create a garden that will encourage moths to settle and breed.
During the festive interval of mulled wine and mince pies, one of the visitors said “It’s amazing to discover that moths can fly great distances like the length of the british isles, and they are nearly as important as bees to pollinate flowers…It’s great that Idle Valley can find these experts to give members of the public such a wonderful insight into the world of wildlife and to be able to speak with them face to face – you can’t do that with the telly”.
The Idle Valley Christmas Lectures are becoming a tradition so remember to look out for details in 2011.
