Get involved in Ecominds

Members of the public are invited to help shape a new project which aims to combat mental health problems through outdoor activities, at a meeting on 9th May.

Ecominds, run by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, was launched at the start of February at our Idle Valley Nature Reserve.

The project provides opportunities to get involved in a range of conservation tasks, including wildlife gardening and food growing.

Research shows that outdoor activities in a natural setting improve mental wellbeing and reduce feelings of anger, stress, depression and tension. Ecominds supports anyone with mental health needs who is referred from their GP, support worker or community psychiatric nurse.

The Idle Valley reserve provides a breathtaking backdrop for exercise and fresh air and those using the service can gain valuable skills, from arts and crafts to growing vegetables, as well as the chance to meet people with similar experiences to their own.

Ecominds is still in its infancy, and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is holding a project steering group meeting to help shape the future of the initiative. The meeting is open to service providers and service users alike, or anyone with an interest in the project, and is being held on Monday, May 9 at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre. It starts at 5.30pm.
