Green Guardians success!

Monday 5th December

Green Guardians success!

Dedicated environmentalists from across Nottinghamshire were rewarded last week, at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s Annual Green Guardians Awards.

The Awards, the only dedicated suite of environmental awards in the county, celebrate outstanding contributions by businesses, schools, community groups and individuals across the county to improving the environment, with winners selected by Professor David Bellamy from shortlists drawn up by a panel of local judges.

The Gala Awards Ceremony was hosted by wildlife expert Mike Dilger, best known for his regular wildlife slots on BBC’s The One Show. As a former student at the University of Nottingham, Mike was delighted to be back in a county close to his heart: "It was great to be back in Nottingham, a city close to my heart, to hear about all the wonderful environmental initiatives taking place across the county. The range of projects was fascinating and it was pleasing that so many schools are getting involved – giving real hope for the future of Nottinghamshire’s environment and Green spaces” .

Applications were invited for seven award categories, with winners in all but the business category receiving a cheque for £1,000 to help extend their projects.

Huge success

Erin McDaid, our Marketing and Communications Manager said the evening was a huge success.
“Once again this year, we received a wide range of applications and nominations from across the county and the quality of the people, organisations and businesses shortlisted for awards was exceptional.”

“We are delighted to be able to celebrate the hard work of all the applicants and nominees who have made such a tangible contribution to improving our local environment.”

“The continued success of our awards gives us real confidence that more and more people are taking an interest in environmental issues and we are delighted that, thanks to our Award supporters, we are able to recognise and reward local people and organisations.”

Since the Awards were first presented, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has been able to invest approximately £60,000 in prize money to help boost local green initiatives.
