Make a New Year’s Resolution and get fit with the Wildlife Trust:

If talk of the New Year brings to mind post-Christmas blues,  we’re offering the opportunity to blow away the cobwebs and improve your fitness levels in 2010 with a programme of Health Walks on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve east of Retford. These will be suited to people with different levels of fitness and the programme kicks off with a 15 minute walk for those with a low level of fitness on Monday the 11th of January. On Wednesday 13th of January there will be a 45 minute walk for those who are looking to improve their fitness. For further information please call Sara on 01777 713 945.

Idle Valley Nature Reserve is also hosting a series of walks with a seasonal twist during 2010 with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust working in partnership with Rural Bassetlaw Befriending, a local organisation working to provide a link between isolated people over the age of fifty and their community. Each session will include an opportunity to explore this beautiful reserve, with a 1 hour walk followed by an activity, with the chance to chat over food. The first walk is on Thursday 14th January starting from the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre. Anyone looking for a chance to meet like-minded new people over the age of fifty is welcomed to join a walk around the reserve, with a talk on owls, and soup and rolls to follow. For further information on both these walks or to book your place please call Sara on 01777 713 945.

It is not only over at Idle Valley where you can improve your fitness. Attenborough Nature Centre is also offering a Health Walk on 2nd January, a Guided Nature Walk on 3rd January and a Winter Bird Walk on 9th January - all provide a chance to explore this beautiful reserve. Contact Attenborough Nature Centre on 0115 972 1777 for more information or to book your place.

Take a morning stroll at Skylarks Nature Reserve on Sunday 17th January and learn how to look for signs of mammal activity. Contact Keith Wakerley on 0115 933 3280 to book your place.  Or for members only, on the same Sunday identify wintering birds and take a walk around Idle Valley Nature Reserve at our Members only Bird Watching Morning. Places are limited so booking is essential, please contact the Membership Team on 0115 958 8242

As well as these healthy walks, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust also has regular volunteer work parties undertaking a range of practical management work on its reserves – these sessions also offer a great way of keeping fit and active during 2010.
