The Big Wildlife Garden
Monday 12th September
Chance to enter your garden to be part of Britain’s largest nature reserve!
The ‘Big Wildlife Garden’ scheme aims to address habitat loss in our country by promoting small actions towards making gardens of all sizes more wildlife friendly.
It is easy to sign up to the scheme online where there are a number of tips, the opportunity to enter a national competition and ultimately improve the prospects for wildlife in our county.
The initiative awards points for people making a positive impact in their garden. Putting out birdseed, for example, will give you one point, whereas simply mowing your lawn less regularly awards the gardener four points. The number of points collected equate to a bronze, silver, gold or green award for encouraging wildlife into your garden.
Win!
If you think your garden is particularly nature friendly, the Big Wildlife Garden Competition is open to everyone in the UK and includes six categories, catering for every type of garden. The prizes include membership to Notts Wildlife Trust and The Royal Horticultural Society plus attendance at a wildlife gardening masterclass at the Hampton Court Flower Show.
The competition deadline is not until 20th May 2012, so there is plenty of time to prepare and include more wildlife-friendly features in your garden. It is a great opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy time in your garden and help the wildlife of our county.
