Wildlife Trust family friendly open day to help people discover city woodland gem

On Friday August 19th, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust will be hosting a family friendly open day between 1pm and 4pm at Sellers Wood Nature Reserve off Wood Link, Bulwell.

The site is one of a number of nature reserves managed across the City on behalf of Nottingham City Council.

The wood is renowned for its displays of spring wild flowers but is also home to a wide range of birds and other wildlife.

As well as being rich in wildlife, Sellers Wood has a rich history too – with pits dug to provide clay for the nearby Sankey’s plant pot factory now providing wonderful habitat as wildlife ponds.

The event will feature guided walks, pond dipping and craft activities. There will also be a chance to meet the team that cares for the wood throughout the year.

Speaking about the event, Ruth Testa of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said: “Sellers Wood is special woodland and this event has been organised in part to celebrate the reserve gaining a Green Flag Award for the second year running, but we also simply want more people to use and enjoy it. It’s really exciting to have such a rich and stunning woodland on the edge of the City.”

As well as being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its wildlife value, it is also a designated as a Local Nature Reserve due to its accessibility.
