Wildlife Trust thanks company for supporting awards recognising local action

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has today thanked EDF Energy (Cottam & West Burton) for supporting the charity’s 2018 Wildlife on your Doorstep Awards which seek to recognise local action to promote and protect wildlife and wildlife habitats.

The company, a longstanding supporter of the charity’s award programmes, has agreed to support the 2018 programme which is currently seeking nominations from across the county.

As a result of Cottam & West Burton’s support, the Wildlife Trust will be able to run the awards across the whole county and is particularly excited at the prospect of encouraging more applications from the Bassetlaw and Newark & Sherwood areas. Nominations are being sought in all districts and boroughs with the support of the charity’s network of Local Members’ Groups and it is hoped that staff from EDF Energy will also put forward suggestions from the local area.

Last year’s winners included Creswell Crags for their focus on caring for wildlife at the internationally renowned heritage site and the Wildlife Trust is currently seeking nominations for individuals, groups, schools and businesses which are making efforts to promote or protect wildlife in the local community.

In recognition of their   continued support, EDF Energy (Cottam & West Burton) joins Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s 2018 list of “Wildlife Guardians” - companies that support the charities work by funding its education and outreach or conservation work.  Upon presenting the company with their Wildlife Guardian corporate supporter certificate, Holly McCain, the Trust’s Senior Development Officer said “We are delighted that EDF Energy have agreed to back our ‘Wildlife on Your Doorstep’ awards programme again this year. As a local charity established as a result of local action we believe that it is vital to highlight the efforts of individuals, groups, businesses and schools that are taking action in their local community to promote and protect wildlife. The support of EDF Energy means that we promote the Wildlife on your Doorstep programme right across the county.”

Speaking on behalf of EDF Energy (Cottam & West Burton) - Steve Lee Technical Records Co-ordinator said “The awards provide a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of those working hard to help wildlife  and have a positive impact on the environment right on their doorstep. We are proud to continue the support of this awards programme”.
