On November 14^th two members of our Keeping it Wild team, Iona and Tom, represented Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust at a Parliamentary Reception hosted by The Wildlife Trusts. The aim of the event was to remind MPs of our view that everyone deserves to live in a healthy, wildlife-rich environment and to underline the fact that this Bill is a once in a generation opportunity to secure a Wilder Future.

Iona and Tom met three Nottinghamshire MPs – Chris Leslie, Alex Norris and Lillian Greenwood and this week the Trust has written to all county’s MPs to remind them that we need their support as the Bill progresses in the New Year.

We believe that to truly secure nature’s recovery and leave the environment in a better state, a new Environment Bill must:

1. Set ambitious and measurable targets to guarantee clean air and water, healthy soils and ecosystems, abundant wildlife, and a thriving marine environment.

2. Drive the creation of Nature Recovery Networks, mapped and delivered locally, to protect and join-up important places for wildlife and to bring nature into every neighbourhood to ensure everyone, whatever their background, has access to wildlife-rich natural green space.

3. Enshrine strong environmental principles and create an effective independent watchdog.

We will keep the pressure up on MPs in the months ahead but you can do your bit to secure a Wilder Nottinghamshire and a Wilder Future by contacting your MP to explain what nature and wildlife means to you. You could also ask for a meeting to discuss this issue and find out their views or you could drop in to one of your MPs local surgeries.
