Welcome to the Wildlife in the Wetlands webpages.
Wildilife in the Wetlands is a new initiative showcasing wetland habitats across Nottinghamshire. We're running some great events, providing information and suggesting how you can help protect wetland widlife. We've listed some great events coming up for you to enjoy and have provided details of our fantastic wetland reserves for you to visit.
We'll be adding to this through the coming year with all kinds of activity sheets, events, volunteering dates, news and more. is a new initiative from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and
which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of fresh, clean water for wildlife. Wetlands such as rivers and ponds attract a breathtaking range of wildlife, but work must be done to keep these wetland areas clean and in good condition.
will showcase the wonderful range of wetland habitats across Nottinghamshire, encouraging people to get out and experience wetland wildlife first-hand, and promote the vital need for clean water for wildlife.

We provide year round opporutnitites to get involved and a whole host of education and environmental events for you to enjoy.

Gushing water begins Besthorpe wetland success

Gushing water signalled the final stage of our half a million pound project to restore a major Trent-side nature reserve last week, as millions of litres were transferred from a specially-created lagoon, to a new area of reedbed and ponds - at Besthorpe Nature Reserve near Collingham, Newark.

Rescue swan gets new home at Idle Valley Nature Reserve

A majestic mute swan was released at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve after holding up traffic during rush hour near Bothamsall, north Nottinghamshire. Early morning drivers cared enough to slow down, stop and call the police when the swan just couldn’t quite get enough lift to ‘take off’.

Wetland crafts - Kingfisher Mask
A rainy day at home? Why not try making this fun Kingfisher mask, ideal for young children. Its easy to make and fun to play with, simply print it out, colour it in then carefully cut it out then finally tie a headband using either a piece of string or elastic.
Wetland crafts - Frog Mask
Our second mask, perfect for leaping about in! Print it then colour it any way you like, cut it out and tie a headband.
Duck Detective
We get a great variety of ducks on wetlands across the county, why not take this picture sheet out with you next time and try to spot any of these great looking species.
World Wetlands Day Flipbook
2nd February is World Wetlands Day. We hope that you feel inspired to get out and find a nearby wetland to visit (our campaign map might help), we also hope you love this fun frog flipbook. Print it onto card, cut the pages out and staple them in number order, flick the pages and watch the frog jump. It's great fun (for young and old) and almost as good as actually being at a wetland.
