Our natural world is in deep trouble. We are facing an ecological and climate emergency. Wildlife is in serious decline, in ever more isolated pockets, and the UK has become one of the most nature-depleted nations in the world.

Many of Nottinghamshire's wild places such as woodlands, wildflower meadows and wetlands have been lost and what does remain is in ever more isolated pockets, and species such as turtle dove are at risk of being lost altogether from our county. Overall, the UK has become one of the most nature-depleted nations in the world.

Public concern for the environment is higher than ever and thousands of people have been calling on government to stand up for nature and tackle the climate crisis head on.

Transforming our towns and city for people & nature

Read our vision

The local elections taking place in the City of Nottingham and in all Districts and Borough Councils across the county on May 4th are a terrific opportunity to build on this momentum and get action for nature built into local policies and plans – but we need your help.

Despite their importance, around 65% of people don't vote in the local elections. Whether you choose to vote or not, you can still have your say.

Nature urgently needs our help to recover, and it is crucial that candidates from all political parties hear about how important the environment is to people across Nottinghamshire.

Tell candidates you demand a #WilderNottinghamshire by signing our petition.

Who is standing to be my local representative?

On the 4th of May 2023, people across England will head to the polls to vote for their local councillors.

Your councillors in Nottinghamshire have the power to help local people and enable nature’s recovery. They make many decisions at a local level that impact your community and wildlife locally, including, having a say in what will be built and where, how to control air pollution, how to improve access to green spaces and they will play a key role in developing a Nature Recovery Network.

If you would like more information on how local councils work, their responsibilities and how to influence their decisions, download our guide to Working with Local Authorities to Welcome Back Wildlife.

The Wildlife Trusts are entirely non-partisan. We do not endorse, or otherwise act for, or on behalf of, any candidate, political party, or parties.
