Chance to explore ‘secret garden’

Our 'secret garden' Faith Marriott Nature Reserve in Notts will open for the first time since its £10,000 facelift this August.

Members of the public can get a first glimpse at changes to our Faith Marriott Nature Reserve in Mapperley Plains on Sunday 14th August .

The reserve was donated to us in 1999, and was formerly the garden of a period property next door. It still has many original 1930s features, including paths, flowerbeds and steps.

The £10,000 renovation project, funded by the Waste Recycling Group (WREN), has been going on since the end of last year. We have worked to enhance the existing woodland on the site with a new pond, herb garden, woodland glade and wildflower area.

“We’re really delighted with the work to transform Faith Marriott Nature Reserve,” said Kym Swan from our Reserves Team. “It’s a really beautiful space for wildlife in an area you perhaps wouldn’t expect to have a nature reserve.”

The Open Day will run from 10am – 3pm, and will feature family fun including trails, bird-box making activities, a mini-beast hunt and cake and plant stalls.

Faith Marriott Nature Reserve is located adjacent to the B684, currently accessible via Corncrake Drive, off Coppice Road, in Arnold, Nottinghamshire.
