Flying Visits
Tuesday 14th October
Pupils at Sutton Bonington Primary School are set to improve their school grounds for wildlife, with the help of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and East Midlands Airport.
The ‘Flying Visits’ project, funded by East Midlands Airport, aims to get all pupils in the school actively involved in creating habitats and helping wildlife in their grounds.
Lynn Victor, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s education officer, is visiting each class in the school to lead a variety of activities, from making bird feeders and mini-beast hotels to sowing wildflower seeds.
Lynn said: “It’s great to see such enthusiasm for helping wildlife throughout the whole school, and the grounds will be more interesting for pupils too as a result. This is just the start of an on-going project to improve the grounds which will also include the creation of a wildlife pond. It’s important that young people get the chance to experience nature first-hand, and this kind of project puts it on their doorstep, so it’s exciting times ahead for Sutton Bonington school.”
