Go Wild in our Wetlands!
Efforts to promote and protect the county’s cherished wetland wildlife habitats and key species such as otters and water voles by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust have received a major boost thanks to a new initiative backed by Speedo International  Ltd.

Wildlife in the Wetlands’ in partnership with Speedo, will see some great events being organised over the coming year, all to raise awareness of the importance of well maintained habitats and clean water for wildlife.

Wetlands such as rivers and ponds attract a breathtaking range of wildlife, but work must be done to keep these wetland areas clean and in good condition. The new scheme will be providing information on what you can do to protect your local wetland area, organising practical volunteer days and producing fact sheets and kids activities to encourage people to get involved.

To coincide with the launch, staff from Speedo visited the River Leen in Nottingham, and found out about some our the 'behind the scenes' work going to to protect the endangered water vole, including the construction of a new ledge to help this elusive mammal travel along the riverbank.

The ledge is due to be constructed soon by the Environment Agency, improving the water voles' chances of survival. Development Officer, Leon Hayward said, ‘It’s this kind of positive action and conservation work taking place all around the county that the Wildlife in the Wetlands project between us and Speedo hopes to publicise, this really is conservation in action.’

Why not get involved by visiting your local wetland area and do your bit to protect Nottingham’s wildlife and help preserve these inspiring places.
