Wildflower giveaway at Castle
Friday 3rd September
On Sunday 5th September, we will be giving away hundreds of free wildflower seed packs at Nottingham Castle.
The freebie flower packs are being distributed as part of our Mini Meadow Campaign, launched earlier this year. The campaign aims to enlist the public’s support to create thousands of mini meadows across Nottinghamshire.
With approximately 98% of the nation’s traditional wildflower meadows sadly lost over the past 50 years, the Wildlife Trust is doubling its efforts to create valuable new habitat.
Thanks to support from The Big Lottery Fund and city-based Novozymes Biopharma, Mini Meadows is now the charity’s largest ever public participation campaign.
Speaking about the castle giveaway, Wildlife Trust Development Officer Isabel Maclennan said: “Since the campaign launch in April this year we have given away over 6000 seed packs across Nottinghamshire. We are very excited to be able to visit the castle and give away even more. Anyone interested in growing their own patch of colourful flowers will very welcome to come and collect a free pack”.
Visit the Mini Meadow stand at the Castle entrance, between 10am and 4pm this Sunday.
The seeds can be used to create a Mini Meadow in gardens and those without much outdoor space can sow them in window boxes or containers. All the Wildlife Trust is asking in return is that people tell them where they have planted them.
