Langwith Lodge World Record Attempt
Wednesday 9th December
On Saturday 5th December, staff and residents of Langwith Lodge and their families took part in a national world record attempt to plant the most trees in one hour. Langwith Lodge, a residential home for the elderly in the village of Nether Langwith (north of Mansfield), is one of Nottinghamshire WIldlife Trust’s newest supporters, joining the Wildlife Guardians corporate scheme earlier this year.
Langwith Lodge hosted the event as part of the BBC Breathing Places “Tree O’clock” world record attempt with the aim of planting a million trees in one hour across the country. 20 eager participants joined in and got their hands dirty, including Bob Farrell - managing director of Your Health (owners of Langwith Lodge). The group planted 50 trees within the alotted hour, overlooked by an independent adjudicator. Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust provided the trees as part of their ongoing work with Langwith Lodge, to promote the wildlife within the home’s extensive grounds.
In addition to planting the trees, the group installed nest boxes in the grounds, as well as a seed hopper.
Staff provided refreshments for those taking part, and rewarded children with certificates and t-shirts to commemorate the event.
The results of the Tree O’Clock Record Attempt are still being collated nationally; Langwith Lodge hope to find out soon whether their efforts, as well as helping the environment, have helped to break a world record!
