Education Centres
Our Education Centres offer great opportunities for children and adults to learn about the natural world. We have dedicated education staff who run year-round, seasonally-based programmes, open to all schools in the county, as well as community groups and adult learning opportunities.
Attenborough Nature Centre
Attenborough Nature Centre is an award-winning education centre and visitor attraction surrounded by the wildlife habitats at Attenborough Nature Reserve. Our education programme at Attenborough ranges from day workshops with schools, training courses for adults, guided walks, illustrated talks and more.
The Centre houses The Willow Den, a well-equipped classroom area which is an ideal base for exploring and investigating habitats including water, trees, reed beds and riverside grassland. There is also the great Nature Table for children and their parents to explore at any time.
We offer a unique environment for pupils to follow programmes that are fun, memorable and linked to the National Curriculum. We are happy to accommodate class requirements as well as special needs groups. All sessions are fully led by our teaching staff with assistance from our volunteer team as appropriate.
Cottam Nature Reserve and Education Centre
Come and visit this fascinating reserve, based at Cottam Power Station in North East Notts. The Wildlife Trust works in partnership with EDF Ltd to provide free activity days for schools and other groups. Choose from a wide variety of activities, including discovery trails, bird watches, wildlife and habitats, pond dipping and a power station tour.
For more information and a teacher’s pack contact our Nottingham Office.
A minimum of 3 adults are required to support activities on reserves. This may include someone to help lead some of the activities following a briefing by one of our education team.
Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre
One of our key partners in the delivery of the Idle Valley Project is North Nottinghamshire College. The College has a long held interest in developing a local centre of excellence in rural education and in Spring 2008 the College took a significant step towards realising its ambition by opening The Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre. Built on land owned by the Wildlife Trust adjacent to what will be the Idle Valley Nature Reserve, the new centre will not only provide students with a unique learning environment, it will directly contribute towards the conservation and management of the project site with the Wildlife Trust co-ordinating practical habitat management tasks. In time, it will also act as a gateway to the Idle Valley for the wider community.
