Digiscoping for Beginners

Saturday 25th May

Event Type: Attenborough | Training Course

Digiscoping is a technique that combines a digital camera with a spotting scope in order to provide high quality telephoto images. Try your hand at getting brilliant wildlife photos using this technique during a practical session at Attenborough Nature Reserve. Three different installations will be demonstrated and provided on the day. 10.00am - 12 noon. The £10 course fee can be used against Opticron purchases of over £100 on the day to get you started with your own digiscoping kit. Please book in advance as spaces are limited.

An Introduction to the World of Wildlife Photography

Saturday 1st June

This exciting activity gives you a rare chance to try your hand at photographing some of the abundant wildlife at Attenborough Nature Reserve. The session will include a briefing from an expert instructor, a supervised session in one of our hides, and a chance to use some professional camera equipment, as well as some tips on getting the most from your camera. Afterwards you will be able to take your images home on a CD. Suitable for beginners. 8.00am – 10.30am. £35 per person. Please book in advance.

Learn a Skill at Idle Valley – Grasses

Saturday 1st June

Event Type: Idle Valley | Training Course

Come along to the Idle Valley Nature Reserve for our monthly skills session and by the end you will know how to identify at least five different species of grass. 11.00am – 12.30pm. £4 per session; attend five sessions and get one free. Booking essential.

Wildlife Photography - People in Action

Sunday 2nd June

Event Type: Idle Valley | Training Course

Come along to our monthly photography course at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve which will teach the skills needed when photographing the natural world. This month will be an introduction to candid and reportage photography demonstrating how to take photos of people doing things. 1.00pm – 3.00pm. £4 per session, £3 if you book four or more sessions. Booking and pre-payment required. Everyone attending a session will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the year.

Slugs – Survey and Identification Workshop

Saturday 15th June

Event Type: Bentinck Banks | Training Course

Slugs are a grossly under-recorded invertebrate which is odd as they are abundant, often observed and fairly easy to identify. This workshop will begin with an introduction to slugs and their identification and specimens brought by participants will be identified. The afternoon session will include collecting and recording slugs in Portland Park and Bentinck Banks Nature Reserves for identification back at the Portland Park Visitor Centre. By the end of the day you will be able to identify several species and the Wildlife Trust will have gathered species records for the reserves. Booking is essential. Meet at 10.00am at the Visitor Centre, Lindley’s Lane.
