Wilder Nottinghamshire: Deaf Access in Nature - A BSL Friendly Event
Attenborough Nature Reserve,
Barton Lane, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire, NG9 6DYEvent details
About the event
Wilder Nottinghamshire: Sign for Nature is a friendly, visual and fully BSL-interpreted consultation event designed with and for the Deaf community.
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Nottinghamshire Deaf Society are working together to understand how Deaf people experience nature, what barriers exist, and how we can create more accessible, inclusive opportunities in the future.
Your ideas will directly shape our plans, events and volunteering opportunities.
Who is this event for and why?
This consultation is for BSL users.
BSL users often face barriers when accessing nature, conservation activities, volunteering opportunities and public events.
Although the event is facilitated by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust staff, the session has been co-designed with Nottinghamshire Deaf Society. This partnership helps us ensure the consultation is as inclusive and accessible as possible.
What to Expect
This will be a relaxed, visual, and interactive workshop. Just come along if you are interested in wildlife and conservation.
There will be time for questions, and light refreshments provided.
Why Your Opinion Matters
We want to understand:
- how you like to engage with nature
- barriers you face at green spaces, events or volunteering
- what support would make conservation activities accessible
- what a Deaf-led conservation or nature group could look like
Your feedback will be used to shape future NWT events, volunteering pathways, and Deaf-friendly programming across Nottinghamshire.

About the Wilder Nottinghamshire Network
This consultation is part of our Wilder Nottinghamshire Network — a growing community movement led by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.
The network brings together individuals, community groups, local organisations and volunteers across the county who want to take action for nature where they live.
The aim of the network is simple: to support and inspire more people than ever in Nottinghamshire to help nature recover.
Wilder Nottinghamshire: Sign for Nature is part of this wider commitment. By working closely with Nottinghamshire Deaf Society and the Deaf community, we want to make sure that the network — and future conservation activities — are accessible to everyone. Your feedback will directly influence how Deaf-led and Deaf-inclusive opportunities are developed across the county.
