Bank Holiday BBQ planned as popular Nottinghamshire nature centre continues to mark 20th Anniversary

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is gearing up for a three-day BBQ event as part of a range of activities planned for the Bank Holiday Weekend as the charity continues to mark the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the popular Attenborough Nature Centre, off Barton Lane, Attenborough.

The BBQ will feature meat from the charity’s conservation herd, which grazes nature reserves across the county, including at Attenborough, to protect and enhance fragile habitats such as wildflower meadows and rare heathland.

Alongside the BBQ, which will run from 12pm -7pm daily on Saturday, Sunday and Monday - the reserve will be hosting a range of family friendly activities – with a Bat Walk getting the wild weekend off to a flying start on Friday 22nd.  Over the weekend there will also be Pond Dipping & Moth ID sessions and from Saturday, popular local artist Paul Dyson will also be exhibiting his stunning work in the Centre.

With extended opening hours until 7pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we think it’ll be the place to head this Bank Holiday - perfect for families, nature lovers or anyone looking for a laid-back way to spend the holiday weekend

Speaking ahead of the special weekend, Head of Communications Erin McDaid said: “In the 20 years since Sir David Attenborough opened Attenborough Nature Centre it has become a hugely popular destination where people can discover and connect with nature, but it’s also a great place to meet friends and family.

In planning for the August Bank Holiday we wanted to host a range of activities so we can welcome old friends and first time visitors to experience just what Attenborough is all about - with the added bonus of a special BBQ. We’ll also have pop up bars, our ice cream stand and local produce stalls - all set against the stunning backdrop of the nature reserve.

With extended opening hours until 7pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we think it’ll be the place to head this Bank Holiday - perfect for families, nature lovers or anyone looking for a laid-back way to spend the holiday weekend. As one of my colleagues said, ‘Come for the food, stay for the view!’ ”
