How can you take action for nature?

We often talk about taking action for nature and wildlife here at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, but what does that actually look like in practice?

We want individuals and communities throughout the county to feel inspired by the world around them, as well as motivated to make that world a better place. Taking action for nature means being part of a movement that empowers people to make a difference for nature, the climate, and wildlife in their daily lives. And these actions can be as big or small as you like!

Whether it's volunteering and being a part of our Wilder Nottingham Network, supporting our campaigns, or fundraising for us, there are many ways that you can be a champion for nature in your area.

Case Study

We were delighted and touched when the pupils at Pierrepont Gamston Primary School in West Bridgford chose us as their charity to support this year. The pupils harnessed their creativity to design some amazing posters in support of our "Lead by Example" campaign and held fundraising events to raise money for our work. Designed for Skylarks Nature Reserve in south Nottingham, these posters will help to remind dog walkers to keep their dogs on a lead whilst at our nature reserves and will help to protect the wildlife on the school’s doorstep.

Lead by Example

Our Lead by Example” campaign is one way that you could also take action for nature in your everyday life! Keeping your dog on a lead whilst at our nature reserves helps to protect wildlife. Preventing dogs from running through their habitat means wildlife such as ground-nesting birds have space to nest and rear their young, free from disturbance and stress. We’re grateful to everyone who is already making a better choice for wildlife by keeping their dog on a lead when visiting nature reserves, and we encourage even more dog owners to do the same.
