Pond Life ID Course at Attenborough Nature Reserve
Attenborough Nature Reserve,
Barton Lane, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire, NG9 6DYEvent details
About the event
Attenborough Nature Reserve is home to a vast array of aquatic invertebrates such as Dragonfly Nymphs, Lesser Water Boatmen, Freshwater Shrimp and more!
The session will begin in the Community Room at Attenborough Nature Centre with a friendly introduction to the hidden world of aquatic invertebrates, including tips on how to recognise common groups. Jack will then guide you out onto the reserve for a hands-on pond dip, helping you to safely collect, observe and identify what you find.
This relaxed, small-group course is suitable for all abilities - whether you’re trying pond dipping for the first time or hoping to build on existing knowledge. A hot drink and cake are included in your booking.
Fondly nicknamed “The Fish Twitcher”, you may have enjoyed seeing some of Jack’s underwater work on TV programmes such as BBC Springwatch, The One Show and Countryfile – along with the recent David Attenborough documentary, Wild Isles. Jack is also author of the Freshwater Fishes of Britain and the Field Guide to Pond & River Wildlife of Britain & Europe, and hosts discussions on nature on his popular podcast, The Bearded Tit.
