About the event
Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: Community
Join Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust for a gentle River Ramble in and around Farndon Nature Reserve, celebrating this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme of community — and the powerful role that nature and mindful movement can play in supporting our collective wellbeing.
We’ll take a slow, mindful five mile walk along the riverside, guided by our trained Wellbeing Walk Leader volunteers and staff. Along the way, we’ll pause, notice the little things, and connect with the world around us using all our senses.
Why community?
We know that connection to others is vital for our mental health. By inviting local community groups to join this event, we aim to equip people with practical, accessible ways to support mental wellbeing in their own green spaces — from gardens and allotments to parks and community reserves.
You’ll experience simple nature-based activities you can take back and share with others, helping to build a stronger, more connected, and healthier community. We’ll provide you with a resource kit to takeaway and will be on hand to answer any question.
Who is this walk for?
- Anyone who would like to enjoy a relaxed, supportive morning outdoors
- Community groups looking for ideas to bring mindfulness and wellbeing into their own nature projects (e.g. gardening groups, friends of parks, rewilding teams, health & wellbeing initiatives)
What to expect:
- A gentle-paced walk through the beautiful Farndon Nature Reserve, Farndon
- Memorial Woods and along the River Trent (see route below)
- Mindful activities such as breathing exercises , poetry, nature journaling, mindful walking, and photography – all optional, no experience needed. Please be sure to bring a notebook, pen and camera for these activities if you would like to take part.
- A calm, phone-free space: we invite you to switch your phone to silent or airplane mode to really be present.
- Ideas, tools and inspiration to take back to your own group, project, or community.
- Time to relax and connect with others over a drink afterwards.
